Elk Grove Auto Mall will sell luxury hybrid car
The Elk Grove Auto Mall is one of 32 North American sites chosen to sell the Fisker Karma sedan, a luxury plug-in hybrid.
The ,900 Karma is produced by Irvine-based Fisker Automotive, the 2-year-old maker of premium, environmentally friendly autos.
John Driebe, owner and operator of the neighboring Nissan and Infiniti dealerships in the Elk Grove Auto Mall, and longtime partner Tom Price plan to have the new Fisker showroom open in mid-2010.
Driebe said orders for the Karma can be taken now for delivery in mid-2010.
A fully charged, four-seat Karma is capable of traveling 50 miles on electric power alone, Fisker said.
Once that threshold is reached, a small gasoline-fueled engine turns a generator to charge an on-board lithium-ion battery, extending the vehicle’s overall range to 300 miles.
The Karma has a top speed of 125 miles per hour.
